Welcome to Kindergarten!

The first year of school is always an exciting adventure for the entire family. I am looking forward to a wonderful year with you and your child.

A very important ingredient in making this year a special one will be the relationship we develop. I will be in touch in many ways this year asking for your participation and help and will expect calls from you, if my assistance is needed. You will receive a weekly newsletter telling about class events, as well as scheduled parent/teacher conferences and report cards. You may call Terryville’s main office (474- 2834) between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. during the summer and until 4:00 p.m. during the school year. Our secretaries will take a message and I will return your call as soon as possible. You may also e-mail me at home at kdgn315@optonline.net. I will be working on a class web page this year. You may visit our class website at:

You can see last year’s activities on our school district site. Click on Kbears!

Most kindergarten parents have many questions before school begins. I hope I can answer a few here:

bus.gif (2133 bytes)     School Hours:

Terryville’s kindergarten is a full day program. Students arrive by bus at 8:13 a.m. I strongly urge you to say goodbye at the bus stop with a hug and a smile, no matter how upset your child may be. Tears are normal for a beginning kindergartner. Please be assured that I will call you at the first opportunity with any significant adjustment problems. It has been my experience that the children settle down after a few minutes in the classroom. Those children whose parents have accompanied them to school on the first day usually experience a more traumatic separation than those who arrive by bus.

This year our buses will leave school by 2:48 p.m. Times may vary for the first week or so. Please be at the bus stop a few minutes early to meet your child . If no one is at the bus stop, your child will be brought back to school. You will receive a call to come to pick your child up in the main office.

chalkboard.gif (1678 bytes)      School Attendance:

Your child’s regular and prompt attendance is critical for success in kindergarten. Most learning experiences are based on prior knowledge or involve interaction with others. It is almost impossible to make up work at home. Please be sure that your child arrives on time every day, except in cases of illness or emergency. If your child is absent, please remember to call the school nurse and send a note explaining the reason for the absence.

schlcl1m.gif (380 bytes)      Supplies:

I have included a supply list on our website.   Please note that some of these items may be brought to school at Kindergarten Round-up to avoid confusion on the first day of school. I will not be at school during Round-up, so you may leave them in the classroom during your visit.

bearapple.gif (1781 bytes)     Snack and Lunch:

Please send snack in a bag and lunch in a lunch box. We eat snack around 10:00 a.m. We store our lunch boxes until lunchtime. If both lunch and snack are in the same container, the children become confused and often don’t know which to eat at snack time. Please send exact change when buying lunch. Put the money in a small envelope and LABEL with your child’s name, amount, teacher’s name, and purpose. I will not be in the lunchroom with the class . Cafeteria aides will be assisting with all needs at lunchtime.

I will send home additional information during the first week of school. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions. Thank you for your interest and cooperation. I look forward to a wonderful year!

Sincerely,

Regina Stewart
